{"id":70,"date":"2014-04-26T10:05:41","date_gmt":"2014-04-26T15:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/\/?page_id=70"},"modified":"2014-05-01T21:07:55","modified_gmt":"2014-05-02T02:07:55","slug":"a-brief-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.coastguardmodeling.com\/index.php\/test-page\/a-brief-history\/","title":{"rendered":"A Brief History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Lighthouse Service was established in 1789 to maintain navigation buoys and lights.<br \/>\nThe Revenue Cutter Service was established in 1790 to enforce customs laws.<br \/>\nThe Lifesaving Service was established in 1879 to man stations along the coast to respond to sinkings and groundings.<br \/>\nIn 1915 the Revenue Cutter Service and the Lifesaving Service were merged to form the Coast Guard.<br \/>\nIn 1939 the Coast Guard assumed the missions of the Lighthouse Service.<br \/>\nAll RCS vessels and LHS vessels and lighthouses are &#8220;Coast Guard Models&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Coast Guard manned several Navy ships in WWII including DEs, PFs, LSTs, AKAs, etc<br \/>\nSame with Army tugs and freighters<br \/>\nThe Coast Guard pressed many civilian boats into emergency WWII Service<br \/>\nCoastguardsmen conducted infantry-style raids and pounded the beaches on horseback in WWII<br \/>\nCoasties wore combat fatigues in Vietnam and BDUs in Desert Storm<br \/>\nThe Coast Guard acquired several classes of ships from the Navy including DDs, SCs, AVPs, ATFs, ATAs, etc.<br \/>\nThe Coast Guard flew over 100 different aircraft types since 1916<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There are 4 Navy ships named for Coast Guard heroes including a Fletcher Class DD<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Coast Guard sponsored NASCAR cars for several years in the late 90s and early 2000s<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lighthouse Service was established in 1789 to maintain navigation buoys and lights.
