Search 60 | Artesenia Latina | Wood: Sold as Virginia 1819 Catalog mentions tasks as a “Coast Guard boat” The kit scales to a 67′ long vessel, including bowsprit, and is armed with a single pivot gun mounted well forward The 2 cutters of the Alabama Class were commissioned in 1819 They were armed with a single pivot gun but it was mounted amidships The 2 cutters of the Search Class were commissioned in 1815 They were armed with a single pivot gun with no documentation on where In my opinion, this kit most closely represents a Search Class |

Alabama 52 | Corel | Wood: Sold as 1823 Revenue Cutter Ranger The kit would scale to a 75′ long vessel, including the bowsprit, and is armed with a single pivot gun amidships There was no RC Ranger and I found no cutter commissioned in 1823 In my opinion, this kit most closely represents an Alabama Class cutter |

Campbell/Joe Lane 102 | Bluejacket | Wood: Sold as USRC Joseph Lane This kit had a solid wooden hull and is not to be confused with the Bluejacket offering named Jefferson Davis (see next line) which is also more than likely a Joe Lane |
|||
Campbell/Joe Lane 102 | Bluejacket | Wood: Sold as USRC Jefferson Davis This kit is plank of frame and not to be confused with the Joe Lane above There is some controversy over this kit The Bluejacket catalog lists it as “one of the Campbell class of 14 revenue cutters” named for Jeff Davis, Franklin Pierce’s Secretary of War The Campbells were also known as the Joe Lanes One credible source confirms it was based on drawings of the Joe Lane But the Campbell Class cutters were commissioned in the late 1840s Jeff Davis was Secretary of War in 1853 And there were only 4 Campbell/Joe Lane class cutters There were 14 Morris/Taney class cutters There was a M/T class cutter named Jefferson (for Thomas Jefferson) The CG Historian states that the Jeff Davis was a Cushing class cutter commissioned in 1853 with 5 other cutters named for the Pierce cabinet It is possible this model is based on the Joe Lane drawings, but Bluejacket mixed 3 classes of cutters together and ultimately misnamed the model Jefferson Davis instead of a Joe Lane name |

Cushing 91 | Lindberg | Sold as Armed Schooner Sandpiper This kit also has a history Marx originally produced the kit and stated it was fictitious But it has the lines of a Baltimore Clipper, as did many early RCs Some sources say this kit closely resembles the Joe Lanes Others say is closely resembles the Cushings (specifically Jeff Davis) Many early RCs shared similar lines and hard data does not exist It is possible to build this model as a Cushing or a Lane |

Eagle 61 (1809) | Mamoli Mamoli |
Wood: Sold as Black Prince Wood: Sold as Newport Black Prince is listed as Franklin’s Privateer Newport is listed as a 1700/1800 “Coast Guard, smuggler, pirate” boat No specific Revenue Cutter is suggested In my opinion, these kits most closely represent the 1809 Eagle, famous from the War of 1812 and commemorated in Semper Paratus There are no pictures of Eagle, but the written description agrees with the lines of these kits |
